To get found on Google and Google Maps in the Philippines, start with a complete, verified Google Business Profile, keep your business name, address and phone number identical everywhere online, collect genuine reviews and reply to them, and make sure your website has a clear page for each main service with your location details. Local SEO rewards businesses that are relevant, nearby and trusted, so most of the work is about giving Google accurate, consistent information and giving customers reasons to recommend you.

This guide explains each step in practical terms for clinics, restaurants, law offices, shops, contractors and other local businesses.

How Google decides who shows up locally

Google has said that local results are based mainly on three things:

  • Relevance: how well your profile and website match what the person searched for.
  • Distance: how close you are to the searcher or the location in their search.
  • Prominence: how well known and trusted your business is, reflected in reviews, links, mentions and your overall web presence.

You cannot change distance, but you can improve relevance and prominence a great deal.

Step 1: Claim and complete your Google Business Profile

Your Business Profile is the listing that appears in Google Maps and in the local results on Google Search. It is free.

  1. Claim or create the profile at Google Business Profile using a Google account your business controls, not a staff member’s personal account.
  2. Verify it. Google offers methods such as video verification depending on the business. Until verified, your edits may not show.
  3. Choose the right primary category. Be specific: “Dental clinic” rather than “Health”, “Filipino restaurant” rather than “Restaurant”. Add a few relevant secondary categories.
  4. Use your real business name. Adding keywords or locations to your name (“Best Dentist Pasig Cheap”) violates Google’s guidelines and can get your listing suspended.
  5. Fill in everything: address or service area, phone, website, hours (including holiday hours), services or menu, attributes, and a clear description.
  6. Add real photos of your storefront, interior, team at work and products, and keep adding them over time.

Service-area businesses

If you visit customers rather than receiving them (aircon cleaning, pest control, movers, home repairs), you can hide your address and list the cities or areas you serve instead.

A complete, verified profile puts your shop on the map—literally.

Step 2: Keep your NAP consistent everywhere

NAP means name, address and phone. Philippine addresses can be written many ways (unit, building, street, barangay, city, province, zip code), and inconsistent versions confuse both customers and search engines. Pick one format and use it on:

  • Your website footer and contact page
  • Google Business Profile
  • Facebook page and other social profiles
  • Apple Business Connect (for Apple Maps) and Bing Places
  • Relevant industry directories and associations
  • Delivery and booking platforms you are listed on

If you move or change numbers, update all of these, not just Google.

Step 3: Get genuine reviews and respond to them

Reviews influence both rankings and whether people choose you. Practical ways to get more:

  • Ask satisfied customers directly at the right moment: after a successful appointment, delivery or project completion.
  • Send your review link by Viber, SMS or email with a short, polite message.
  • Put a QR code linking to your review page at the counter or on receipts.
  • Reply to every review, positive and negative, politely and without revealing private details. For clinics and law firms, never confirm that someone is a patient or client in a public reply.

What not to do: buy reviews, offer discounts in exchange for reviews, post reviews for yourself, or ask only happy customers while filtering out others. These go against Google’s policies and can lead to removed reviews or a suspended listing.

Your Business Profile links to your website, and Google uses your site to understand what you do and where.

  • One page per main service, each explaining the service, who it is for, typical price range and how to book. A single page listing everything is weaker.
  • Location information on the site: full address in the same format as your profile, an embedded map, landmarks, parking details and hours.
  • Location pages only if they are genuinely different. If you have branches, give each its own page with its own address, hours, photos, staff and directions. Avoid copies of the same page with only the city name swapped; they add little value and can hurt quality.
  • Clear titles and headings that naturally include your service and area, for example “Pediatric Dentist in Cainta, Rizal”.
  • Structured data (LocalBusiness schema) that marks up your name, address, phone and hours so search engines read them reliably.
  • Fast loading on mobile. Most local searches happen on phones, often on mobile data.

Step 5: Build local prominence

  • Get listed by your industry associations, chambers of commerce and local business groups.
  • Partner with nearby businesses and suppliers who can mention or link to you.
  • Sponsor or join local events and get featured in local news or community pages.
  • Publish helpful content that locals search for, such as “what to expect on your first visit” or “how to prepare for aircon cleaning”.

Quality matters more than quantity. A handful of genuine local mentions beats hundreds of low-quality directory submissions.

Step 6: Keep the profile active

  • Update holiday hours before Christmas, Holy Week and long weekends.
  • Post updates, offers or events on your profile.
  • Answer questions customers ask on your listing.
  • Add new photos regularly.
  • Check that nobody has suggested wrong edits to your listing.

Step 7: Measure what is working

Your Business Profile shows how people found you and what they did: calls, direction requests, website clicks and messages. Google Search Console shows which searches bring people to your website. Review these monthly and focus on the services and areas that bring real inquiries.

  • Review request process in place; all reviews answered
  • Website has service pages, location details and a map
  • Search Console and Analytics connected

Frequently asked questions

How long does local SEO take to show results?

Fixing and verifying your Business Profile can improve visibility within weeks. Building reviews and local prominence is gradual and ongoing, especially in competitive areas like Makati, BGC or Cebu City.

Can I rank in a city where I do not have an office?

You can list it as a service area if you genuinely serve it, and you can create a useful page about serving that area. Ranking in the Maps results is much harder without a physical presence nearby.

Do I need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?

A profile alone can bring calls, but a good website strengthens relevance, gives customers more detail and converts better. The two work best together.

Should I pay for Google Ads instead?

Ads can bring immediate visibility and are useful for promotions. Local SEO builds visibility you do not pay for per click. Many businesses use both.
