Laravel 13 was released on March 17, 2026. It requires PHP 8.3 to 8.5, receives bug fixes until the third quarter of 2027 and security fixes until March 17, 2028, and adds a first-party AI SDK and vector search support. For Philippine businesses running Laravel web apps, the most urgent fact is older: Laravel 11 stopped receiving security fixes on March 12, 2026, and Laravel 12 security support ends on February 24, 2027.

Laravel is a popular PHP framework for custom web applications: booking systems, inventory and order portals, school and clinic systems, and the back ends behind many mobile apps. This guide explains what Laravel 13 means for owners of those systems, without the code. We cover the support calendar, the new AI features, hosting requirements, security and a step-by-step upgrade plan from Laravel 10, 11 or 12. Dates come from the official Laravel and PHP pages linked below.

Laravel 13 at a glance

According to the official Laravel 13 release notes, here is where the three most recent versions stand:

Version Released Bug fixes until Security fixes until Status on October 26, 2026
Laravel 13 March 17, 2026 Q3 2027 March 17, 2028 Fully supported
Laravel 12 2025 August 13, 2026 February 24, 2027 Security fixes only
Laravel 11 2024 Ended Ended March 12, 2026 Unsupported

Laravel 10 and earlier are older than Laravel 11, so they are also outside security support. If your web app runs on any of them, it is not receiving upstream security patches.

What “bug fixes” and “security fixes” mean for you

During the bug-fix window, the Laravel team corrects ordinary defects. After it ends, only security problems are patched. After the security window ends, nothing is patched: newly discovered vulnerabilities in that version stay open unless your developer fixes them by hand. For a system that holds customer records, payments or bookings, running outside the security window is a business risk, not just a technical one.

As of October 2026, Laravel 11 is out of support, Laravel 12 is in its security-only phase, and Laravel 13 is covered until March 2028.

PHP requirements: check your server first

Laravel 13 needs PHP 8.3 or newer. The PHP supported versions page gives the following dates:

  • PHP 8.5 (released November 20, 2025): active support to December 31, 2027; security fixes to December 31, 2029.
  • PHP 8.4: active support to December 31, 2026; security fixes to December 31, 2028.
  • PHP 8.3: security fixes only, until December 31, 2027.
  • PHP 8.2: security fixes only, until December 31, 2026. Not supported by Laravel 13.

ServicioPro’s recommendation for new Laravel 13 projects is PHP 8.4 or 8.5, which gives the longest runway. Most cPanel and VPS hosts used in the Philippines allow PHP version changes, but confirm that your host offers PHP 8.3 or newer, along with any extensions your app uses, before planning the upgrade. What is new in Laravel 13 that matters to businesses

The release notes highlight two additions with direct business value: a first-party AI SDK and vector search support.

First-party AI SDK

Before Laravel 13, adding AI features to a Laravel app usually meant choosing and maintaining separate third-party libraries. A first-party SDK means the integration is maintained alongside the framework, which reduces long-term maintenance risk. Typical uses in business apps include drafting replies to customer inquiries for staff approval, summarising long forms or notes, and classifying incoming requests so they reach the right person.

Vector search finds records by meaning rather than exact words. A customer searching “bag for a 15-inch laptop that survives rain” can find a product described as “water-resistant laptop backpack”. It is also the foundation for assistants that answer from your own documents and show their source. Depending on the setup, vector search can require a database that supports vector data, which may affect your hosting choice, so ask your developer early.

Both features handle data that may be personal, so the Data Privacy Act applies. Our guide to AI-powered websites and apps in the Philippines covers realistic use cases and privacy rules.

Where Laravel fits for Philippine SMEs

Laravel is not the right tool for every website. A simple company site or blog is usually better on WordPress or a lightweight build; see our comparison of WordPress vs custom websites. Laravel makes sense when the website is really an application:

  • Booking and scheduling systems for clinics, salons, schools and service businesses.
  • Order, inventory and branch-reporting portals for retailers and distributors.
  • Admin panels and APIs behind mobile apps, such as delivery, ride or loyalty apps.
  • Payment flows connected to gateways that accept GCash, Maya and cards, including webhooks that confirm payments.
  • Internal tools that replace spreadsheets and chat-based approvals.

Planning your upgrade to Laravel 13

Laravel publishes an upgrade guide for each major version. The safest approach is to move one major version at a time, for example 11 to 12, then 12 to 13, rather than jumping several versions in one step. Here is the process ServicioPro recommends:

  1. Inventory the app. Record the Laravel and PHP versions, every Composer package, and any custom integrations such as payment gateways, SMS providers and maps.
  2. Check package compatibility. Confirm each third-party package supports the target Laravel version. Abandoned packages need replacements before you start.
  3. Add or improve automated tests for the flows that make money: login, checkout, booking, payment confirmation and admin reports.
  4. Create a staging copy with a recent, privacy-safe copy of production data.
  5. Upgrade PHP on staging first to 8.3 or newer and fix any issues.
  6. Upgrade Laravel one major version at a time, following the official upgrade guide and running tests after each step.
  7. Test on real devices if the app serves mobile apps, because API changes can break older app versions still installed on customers’ phones.
  8. Deploy with a rollback plan: database backup, previous release ready, and a quiet time window.
  9. Monitor for a week for errors, slow pages and failed background jobs.

If you are on Laravel 12

You have until February 24, 2027 for security fixes. That is enough time for a planned upgrade in a quiet business period, but not enough to postpone it indefinitely. Check that your server offers PHP 8.3 or newer first.

If you are on Laravel 11

Your app has been without security fixes since March 12, 2026. Treat the upgrade as a priority: move to 12, then 13. If the app handles personal or payment data, review access logs and patch exposed areas while the upgrade is prepared.

If you are on Laravel 10 or older

Several steps are needed, and older apps often run on unsupported PHP versions too. Get an assessment before committing: in some cases, rebuilding selected modules is cleaner than upgrading every legacy package.

Security: why staying supported matters

The Verizon 2026 Data Breach Investigations Report found that 31% of breaches began with vulnerability exploitation, ahead of stolen credentials. The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency added 245 entries to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalogue in 2025, bringing it to 1,484, as reported by SecurityWeek. Known flaws in unpatched software are a main entry point.

The OWASP Top 10:2025 adds Software Supply Chain Failures as category A03. For a Laravel app, the supply chain is every Composer and JavaScript package you install. Composer can audit installed packages against known advisories, and that check should be part of routine maintenance.

Our article on lessons from the September 2026 data breaches shows how quickly these incidents affect public trust.

Upgrade or rebuild?

An upgrade is usually right when the app still fits your business, the code is reasonably organised, and most packages are maintained. A rebuild deserves a look when the app is several versions behind, depends on abandoned packages, has no tests, and no longer matches how you operate. There is no reliable published benchmark for upgrade costs in the Philippines, so we do not quote one; the main cost drivers are version distance, the number of packages and integrations, test coverage, and how much custom code exists.

A Laravel app upgraded a little every year is a maintenance task. One left for four years becomes a project.

Frequently asked questions

When was Laravel 13 released?

Laravel 13 was released on March 17, 2026, according to the official release notes. It receives bug fixes until the third quarter of 2027 and security fixes until March 17, 2028.

Which PHP version does Laravel 13 need?

PHP 8.3, 8.4 or 8.5. PHP 8.5 has the longest support, with security fixes until December 31, 2029.

Is my Laravel 11 app still safe to run?

It still works, but Laravel 11 stopped receiving security fixes on March 12, 2026. Any newly found vulnerability will not be patched upstream, so plan an upgrade soon.

Can I skip Laravel 12 and go straight to 13?

It is technically possible, but upgrading one major version at a time, with tests after each step, makes problems easier to isolate and fix.

Do I need the AI SDK to use Laravel 13?

No. The AI SDK and vector search are optional features. Many businesses upgrade for security support alone and add AI features later, if at all.
